The Battle of the Books Committee is excited to announce that the annual Middle School Battle of the Books is scheduled for Wednesday, April 2, 2014. The Battle of the Books is sponsored by OCAEM, the Orange County Association for Educational Media. This year the program will be hosted by Winter Park High School’s 9th Grade Center.
The book battle was initiated in Orange County nineteen years ago to encourage our students to read quality young adult literature. Students will be asked questions based on the books selected for the Sunshine State Young Readers’ Award Program. Reading comprehension, communication skills, and teamwork are all essential elements for the students participating. Just as with competitions in other academic areas, the book battle provides an opportunity for students to excel.
April 2nd will be an exciting day as teams battle to capture trophies for their schools. All participating students will receive recognition for their hard work. We hope you will mark this date on your calendar and that your school will provide a team of students to participate in this year’s battle. If you have any questions concerning this event, please contact Sue Ahlers at Stonewall Jackson Middle School (407-249-6430 #5112253).
